Camilla, GA – Two Killed in Fatal Crash on Highway 97 and Highway 65

Camilla, GA (July 12, 2019) – In Mitchell County, two people lost their lives in a fatal crash that took place at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 65.

Officials stated that, at the time, a Budweiser truck was headed north and a Mercedes vehicle was traveling east. The Mercedes stopped in the middle of the roadway when the truck came across them.

The semi-truck attempted to avoid crashing into the back of the Mercedes by turning the wheel to a hard right. The truck ended up going off the side of the road where it flew into a ditch. The truck caught on fire.

Police say that the two people in the semi-truck were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The two people in the Mercedes were hospitalized. One of them has critical injuries and the other is doing fine.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.
