Athens, GA (March 5, 2020) – Around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, one person was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident on West Broad Street in Athens.
Athens Police believe that a 78-year-old man was leaving a FedEx store and headed toward the Cadence Bank on West Broad Street when he was struck.
Police discovered his body after they arrived at the scene of the accident. They also found the driver at the scene, identified as a man who was driving a 2001 Ford Ranger.
The Ford was traveling westbound when it struck the pedestrian, who had been walking northbound. He made it across six lanes before being struck.
Police confirmed that it was also raining at the time of the accident. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
