Franklin County, GA – Update: Seven Killed in Fatal Accident on I-85 Now Identified

Franklin County, GA (July 7, 2019) – On Saturday afternoon, July 6, we confirmed that a fatal accident took place on I-85 around 1:40 p.m. that took the lives of seven people. Now, those parties have been identified by police.

The Georgia State Patrol has been working on their investigation of this horrific accident that happened when a Ford SUV traveling north crossed into the median and entered the southbound lanes, causing a wrong-way collision.

The Ford immediately struck a Chevy van in the left lane, which then caused the Chevy to strike a third vehicle that was in the right lane. Several agencies responded to the scene of the accident.

Three people in the Ford were killed and three others were injured. All four people in the Chevy passed away.

The Franklin County coroner pronounced six of these people dead at the scene. A 3-year-old was airlifted to the hospital and tragically died while there. One child remains in critical condition.

The people who died in the Ford were identified as a 33-year-old man, 34-year-old woman, and 3-year-old female child.

Those who died in the Chevy were identified as a 53-year-old man, 39-year-old, 35-year-old man, and 36-year-old man.

Investigators are still taking a closer look and trying to determine what caused the Ford to cross the median.

The investigation into the accident continues at this time.

Our sincere condolences are deeply extended to those who suffered losses in this horrific accident.
