Madison, GA (July 18, 2019) – Around 9:38 p.m. last night, July 17, police responded to the scene of a high-speed chase that ended in a car accident on I-20.
The incident took place when a couple stole electrical wire from a construction site and fled the scene, being chased by police along the way. The two suspects, as well as their 8-year-old child, were in a 2005 Dodge Ram truck at the time of the incident.
The Dodge truck pulled away from police at a high rate of speed. At one point, police observed the woman inside the truck attempting to get out with her child but the man, who was driving at the time, threw them back into the truck and told them that they could not get out. They reached speeds of 100 mph.
Police also alleged that at one point, the 29-year-old driver attempted to run over a deputy and forced a Georgia State Patrol trooper off the roadway.
Police finally stopped the vehicle by administering a PIT maneuver. The three people were freed from the vehicle. One suffered a leg injury and was transported to the Athens Piedmont Hospital for treatment.
At this time, the investigation into the accident continues.
Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are warmly extended to the party injured in this crash.
